Its still a few weeks from now before the Tokyo Motor Show happens, but Toyota's concept car for the show has already been unveiled. Weeks early before its debut, the Japanese carmaker unveiled its newest sports car concept, the Toyoto FT-86.
Although Toyota has maintained anonymity to most of its specs, they were actually kind enough to reveal the public photos of the car. The FT-86, called "hachi roku" in Japan, is rumored to have been the product of Toyota and Subaru's joint projects.
The real-wheel drive concept, due to the technologies shared by both automakers, will now use a 2.0L boxer engine of the still unknown power of the car.
Toyota didn't reveal the exact weight of the car, but due to it being 2 doors and almost unibody shape, the curb weight of the vehicle is expected to be at low records.
Toyota FT-86 is only about 264 inches in length and thus will become a bit shorter than the coupe variant of the Chevrolet Cobalt. But the shorter it is, the lighter it will be, and more handling pleasure will be achieved.
The Tokyo Motor Show this coming October 23 to November 4 will surely become a hot event for the year. Although there will be a lot of no shows for this year, with more than 20 automakers opting not to attend the event, the much awaited Lexus LF-A, Toyota's luxurious arm, which will be unveiled in the event, as well as this and dozen of others, are enough reason to give an eye to this year's Tokyo Motor Show 2009.
