When it comes to technological ingenuity, you really have to give it to the Japanese. They always know how to make people's jaws drop down with their fantastic, futuristic inventiones. Cars are no exception. Nissan is included.
Well, that was the impression that I had when I found out about this Land Glider electric vehicle to be presented by Japanese automaker Nissan during the Tokyo Auto Show at the end of this month. It's still a concept car, but you can already see that it is something that will greatly shape the future of the industry.
This compact, quirky machine is part-car, part-motorcycle, and completely emission-free. It draws its powers from two electric engines powered by lithium-ion batteries, which makes it pollution-free. What's cool about this unit, in my opinion, is its "wireless charging" technology that allows it to be charged wirelessly. Pretty neat, huh?
Another cool feature about the car is that it features by as much as 17 degrees to allow better cornering. According to Nissan, the car automatically leans when the driver turns. Now that sounds like riding a roller coaster while plying the roads of the city.
With dimensions of 122 inches in length, 55.7 inches in height, and 43.3 inches in width, this half-width vehicle may be the future of the industry, especially since the number of vehicles are expected to double from 1989 to 2025 while the number of commonly used roads are essentially the same. Having these half-width vehicles definitely help in decongesting the world's roads from vehicles.
According to Nissan executives, they are confident that the model will be able to reach car showrooms in the future, especially since the Land Glider is easier to build with an EV engine than with a diesel one.How are you going to convincingly fit a diesel engine in a car of that size, in the first place? Expect it not to arrive in the coming decade, however.
