The sale of Hummer ha ended and the lucky, unlucky, or whatever you call it bidder who won is China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery. The Chinese company makes and distributes tractors and trucks to the country.
But in a recent China National Radio report, it seems that the Chinese government doesn't want another foreign car company in their turf. According to the report, the government will most likely block the sale of Hummer to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery. All this because of what they called 'environmental concerns'. The first one that was blocked is Renault which according to the government is "unsafe" and has "poor quality".
I know it's a laughable reason since China is dubbed as the maker of low-quality products and the most polluted country in the world. However, the oriental country is doing its very best to change its reputation. They want to cut emissions and at least suspend their current pollution and eventually get rid of it in the coming years. How will they do that is still a question.
And so, due to the Hummer's not so environmentally friendly reputation, Hummer may be blocked from entering their countr. In a statement given by Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, they said that "The fact that it is from an article from a state media organization does not mean it is government policy".
"Some people may have views and speculation, but the Chinese government has a process that we respect.” they added. This gives us the clue that the Chinese company will still be pursuing the acquisition of Hummer and will complete the deal come October.
In a related news, BBC also reported that China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC)will block the Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery’s purchase of Hummer. According to the commission, the move will be done because the company lacks the ability to run such big, successful auto-manufacturing company.
