Performance WebMarketing Interview

By Interviewer at 08/28/07 12:00

Name of your website?

Performance WebMarketing

Your name?

Thomas McGovern

Your Location (city, etc)

Leominster, MA 01453

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Performance WebMarketing is an online marketing and design organization that aims it services to those in the automotive and motorsports industry.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Performance web marketing is the result of a love for the motorsports industry, a know how on using the tools to create web pages, ad designs, and experience in marketing, advertising and sales.

By marrying past work experiences, and a love for anything with a motor and I was able to launch a sustainable venture that helps others with the same passion I have..... cars, motorcycles and trucks.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website launched was a site for a local auto detailer. I basically traded services...a clean car for a cool website. It was a great learning experience and I was hooked....

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted to keep with the theme of who I was targeting. Automotive and motorsports guys are performance people. They want the most of their machinery and like to have the latest and greatest competitive advantage. The name Performance WebMarketing conveys that idea and the name clearly state what I am able to offer.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

I am not just a business guy....I am an automotive and motorsports enthusiast. I too was a weekend warrior and raced motocross in my twenties, I feel I am able to capitalize on targeting their consumers and provide a better experience than just a regular marketing guy. I understand the marketplace.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I would like to leave my regular 9-5 job and focus exclusively in automotive and motorsports field.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Time is the most valuable commodity, right now with just getting started I can leverage my own sweat equity and do all the facets of the work myself. In time I can put money back into the business and grow it one client at a time.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

If I had an unlimited development budget I would focus on being more efficient with the tools and technology used in developing sites and campaigns, right now it can be a pretty laborious task.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Growing fast is certainly better than no growth at all. Depending on the needs of the clients I could choose to work with the ones that are the best fit.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Since we are really a shoe string operation at this point the cost have been minuscule.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Moving to the next level. Carrying the momentum and scaling the client base out.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Currently using word of mouth, and organic listings in the search engine results pages.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Running a website has been a great exercise in thinking outside the box. Many think build it and they will come. There is much more forethought and then execution that needs to happen to keep moving forward.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site has been around in one form or another for the last 2 years. Being my first site it has some memento value so I plan on keeping the site for a longtime. It is very much like my own baby, and watching it grow and take own a life of its own has been exciting.

What is your website address?
