Why Paying for Oil Changes is Cheaper

By Brian White at 05/28/07 09:27

If you have a car and, I don't know, drive it, you know you owe it to yourself and your ride to change that sludgy oil once every couple moons to keep it running to the tippy-toppest standards. You can change it yourself, but you shouldn't, and I'll gladly tell you exactly why.

- Changing it yourself is a huge hassle, and you're likely to miss things like transmission fluid, radiator and other such fluid level checks. Missing one of these can ruin your engine overnight.

- You need to recycle or otherwise properly dispose of the oil, and that's something that's a hassle to do at best.

- They won't just check your gamut of fluids and dispose of all of them properly, they have all the best tools to do it much more quickly than you can, and they'll do it in 30-minutes, and for just about $20 bucks.

- Then know the proper oil weight for your season and car, and service it as a matter of course.

You can change the oil yourself, but the savings is modest (like a couple of value meal combos) and you'll enjoy vastly increased peace of mind, personal cleanliness and wisdom of ages. Don't be a cheapskate to yourself, just do it. Move forward and call it a day.

The problem is that there are many a times when "they" do a ty job and you can lose your car due to their error. Who is going to take care of your car better -- you or them?

All valid points you have if your handicapped but when you list why you should do your oil, first and foremost..you know for sure it was done, second there are plenty of dealers to take your dirty oil, they sell it or use it to heat the shop in winter. Third it's like washing your car, it's a small workout thing, keeps the waist small.
