What happens when two of the world's top companies merge? Well at least for one project. Well, I think that is sweet! That would be a flamboyant display of what each can do. Now that is certainly what's going to happen with the merging of Microsoft and Hyundai. Microsoft, know for its innovations when it comes to computer technologies and softwares will be merging with one of Asia's top automaker, South Korea's no. 1 company, Hyundai-Kia Motor Automotive Group.
The plan is to make Hyundai's cars for future production be an entertainment hub for car lovers. With Microsoft's capabilities on making entertainment and information based systems, Hyundai's cars will be one of the most sought after cars in the future. Microsoft plans to put infotainment systems inside Hyundai and Kia's cars. The unnamed software to be develop by the two companies will definitely include screen and navigational capabilities but the information about it has not yet been unveiled. And the car models that will use the initial infotainment system has not yet been named either.
If all went well, Hyundai-Kia will be the first Asian car maker that will use Microsoft's technologies. If you will recall, Microsoft is also the current supplier and maker of the Sync system to one of America's top car maker, Ford Motor Company. It is also said that the infotainment system they will be developing is different from other softwares that other carmaker used. While other automakers make used of mini-PCs for the car, Hyundai and Microsoft pledged that their software is upgradeable, something that is lacking in mini-PCs.
A customization option will also be given to customers as to what kind of software they wanted to have inside their cars. Seems like Hyundai wants to improve its customer service, eh?
This announcement was unveiled during Bill Gate's visit to South Korea. The Microsoft founder met up with Korea's new president, Lee Myung-bak.
