Benz lovers will confirm to you that Mercedes-Benz is the most royal, adorable and a perfect luxury car in the world. Mercs have for years acted as a fall back to real class that is so hard to come by and the automotive industry has never disappointed the lovers either. Every year be it 1926, 1940, 2008, 2009 or 2010 Mercs have consistently maintained the desirability that firmly pushes the brand in the market.
Now the German manufactures are debating on introducing a Mercedes-Benz luxury class that does 44 miles on a gallon and more interestingly the machine derives its power from a 4-cylinder engine. These two factors; the mileage per gallon and the nature of the engine will be the main standpoints through which the USA lovers will tend to view the new car.
In a nutshell, the diesel engine is the brainchild of the Vision E250 Bluetec concept. The design has been hailed as the world's cleanest and fuel efficient luxury sedan. Additionally, the 2.2 litre diesel engine is boosted by a two stage turbocharger coupled to a direct fuel injection. Most important, the car is clean to the extent that it can meet the green house emission standards that will not take effect until in 2014.
The United States, especially New York is an important market and their approval will be wonder sales for the company. In Europe, the car has been christened the "wonder diesel" that is not only clean, operationally efficient but also offers the smoothness and power so common with the 6-cylinder engine.
Will the United States warm to a 4-cylinder engine Mercedes-Benz luxury car? Only time will tell but it is arguable that ardent and passionate lovers of Mercedes-Benz will not shy away from testing the level of class offered by the 4-cylinder diesel engine.

It is no secret that people are turning their heads to the small cars that had earlier on been despised in favour of their big fuel guzzling brothers. This switch is nonetheless being fuelled by the credit crisis and the instability of the fuel prices in the USA.
While the environmentalist movement is advocating for legislations aimed at pushing the automotive industry to churn out only cars that are smaller and lighter in the name of reducing the environmental impact of bigger units which release a higher concentration of green house gases, safety advocates are worried that the laws of physics may not be revised in favour of the smaller cars.
