Stunt Cars

By Auto Bots at 06/03/08 06:49

When I was still a kid, I used to ask my mom if the cars that were used in movies are real. I mean, those cars that fly on the bridge, got hit by a trains, exploded by a grenade or got crashed by another car.

Well, she told me before that the ones being used in movies are actually real cars but they cars that are assembled or just repaired for the sole reason of destructing it in the movie set. That time I actually find it cool.

I still think it's cool though. But I am now more aware that they are indeed real cars. And making them is also a real pain in the ass. I have been to countless movie sets where I saw cars exploding for real. I just love how they have to spend a lot of money just for the sake of giving the public a good show, and a realistic one at that.

Some stunt cars are really old repaired cars. I learned that movie production crews have to have a partner who sells junk cars. What they do is repair it's exteriors and then put low class engines. The only thing you haver to do is to make it look really a nice car that is completely new.

However, for high budgeted movies, mostly Hollywood films, they really use brand new cars. I even heard that they contact the car manufacturers to make them customized cars so it will blend with their movie. James Bond for one uses cars that are custom made from Ashton Martin. The Ashton Martin Vanquish cars are all made popular by the James Bond series.

There is one incident in the recent James Bond movie played by Daniel Craig that the car to be use in filming a scene in Italy plunged directly down to the bottom of the lake. That is a brand new Ashton Martin! It is to be delivered to the scene but went off the road because of the heavy rain. luckily no one was hurt and the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Well, if they will give that to me, I would accept that car even if it has major injuries. Lol. The new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, is the newest from the 007 series and is due this year. I can't wait to see it!
