The Auto Show

By Car-Addict at 02/27/08 22:16
Before, there is a television channel here in the Philippines that features cars of different model and brands from all over the world. Its title is The Auto Show.

It features expensive cars and showcased car features from different brands. It was hosted by a popular matinée idol so that it can attract more audience, lol.

I remember they were the first once to showcase the features of a Porsche sports car on TV in the Philippines. They compare car to another car. Its like the Pinoy version of Top Gear.

They also put advertisements like people who sell cheap but high quality cars. My fathers friend actually bought two of his cars from a dealer in the show. It was an old GMC truck, and the other was a newer model, a Land Cruiser form Toyota.

Every time I watch the The Auto Show, I really focus because I really love cars. One time my mother would ask me to buy something for her in the middle of the show. I ended up being sermoned because I didn't follow her, I was such a silly kid that time.

Unfortunately, in 2005 the show closed. I don't know why but maybe because that time high end cars are only a new thing to the Philippines, and it wasn't that successful because the economy that time was falling and the only brands of cars the citizens would rather spend at are Asian brands like Japanese Toyota, Hyundae, Mitsubishi, Honda and a lesser popular brand of Kia.

But this year, the The Auto Show will resume airing after receiving a lot of encouragement letter. Its great to hear that. And I am like a kid waiting for it.

What A Day For A Daydream

By Car-Addict at 02/26/08 22:10
Are you singing now? Yes, its the title of Lovin' Spoonful's song.

But I'm not gonna discuss that song, I will discuss my daydreaming yesterday, about 'me and my cars'.

I dreamed yesterday afternoon while having my afternoon nap, that I own hundreds of cars. All of them are high valued and expensive. Shiny, elegant, luxurious, with all the ladies with me. Lol. Seriously, its like a movie.

In one part of my dream, I was riding a Lamborghini Gallardo. I roamed around and after a few hours, it changed to a Lamborghini Diablo and eventually changed to a Lamborghini Murcielago. Lol, funny funny but it was exciting. At least even in my dreams I rode a Lamborghini.

Prior to that part, I also have a gullwing silver Lexus LF-A. Wow, this is one car I really would die for. The style, shiny-smooth exteriors and top of the line interiors makes me drool everytime I see it. Its futuristic appearance adds to its beauty along with its high-tech gadgets inside. Its like a James Bond movie car.

I also dreamed of competiig with Michael Schumacher in the F1 racing, lol. That would have been the most ambitious part of my dream. Anyway, thats just a dream. Haha, and at least in my dream I can beat him s many times as I want and not just in computer games.

In it I also own a house that is more than a hectare in size, with all my cars parked on the lawn. I have the best models of each brand like Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Audi, GM, Ferrari, Lexus, Subaru, Chrysler, Porsche, Pontiac and more.

Haha, fortunately, I still believe dreams do come true.

Cheap Cars For Sale

By Car-Addict at 02/25/08 22:07
I've been looking for a car to use while I'm staying here in Cebu since I arrived here. It's a pain in the ass commuting everyday and adding more expenses to me day by day. I'm not staying here for long so what I need is just a simple car, an old car maybe but with still usable and functional parts of course.

But because of my busy schedule, I wasn't able to find one. Now that I only have few remaining weeks here, my friend came to me and offered if I wanted a car. Lol, I need it before but not anymore, but Still I went to have a look at it.

The car is a black 2003 Toyota Camry. It was beautiful. You wouldn't think its actually a used and a bit of an old car. The gears are all shiny and still functional, after all 2003 is not that 'old', though its a bit late and out of fashion. But who care, its still a Camry.

The regular price of a new model of Camry ranges from Php1.5M to Php2M from car sellers but would cost you around Php2.3M buying it from its real distributor. That Camry they were selling me, considering its model year and adding to the fact that its a used car, cost only Php750 thousand. Whoa, I was shocked at the price. Its pretty cheap. It also comes with airbags, extra tires, 6 months warranty repair, and a lot more of offers.

With those eye candys and offers, I would really go for it. But I can't, because I won't stay here for long and its a hassle shipping it from Cebu to Manila and having it registered again. And besides, I'm saving my money for a business. Haha

When I am back to Manila, I will update you of my quest to buy a new car. Haha, I hope I can find a good one.

An Interview With The Flash

By Car-Addict at 02/25/08 14:17
Don't get the title wrong, this isn't an interview with the superhero with the same name. The Flash I am talking about here is different. An old man, though famous for being the fastest driver, at least for his age, in the Philippines.

I got the chance to talk to him yesterday because of the heavy rain. I was in the lobby of the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City when I spotted him.

He looks old, but you can still sense the aura of being famous and being rich, lol. I started our conversation by asking the time, and he answered politely, a thing I wasn't expecting for a famous old man. Then we talk continuously. He is already 74 years old. His fame started when he was 69 years old when he drove his son's yellow open top Porsche. People along the country's longest highway, EDSA, noticed him and started making a fuzz about his fast driving despite of his age. So the local TV network, GMA, looked for him and interviewed him. An instant celebrity, and the rest, as they say, is history.

As our conversation started to deepen, he told me he just learned driving at the age of 56. Pretty old eh? And because he was born from a poor family, they don't have any car to practiced on. So he then worked hard to achieve his goals, until he put his children all to college and eventually graduate and now all professionals.

He retired from working at the age of 56 and there he started studying how to drive. His cars were not for sports and hes tired of looking at them so he borrowed his son's sports car and trailed the EDSA highway where his good fate begun.

He is so down to earth and very humble. I admire him so much. He even taught me ways how to drive safely especially for an amateur like me.

It really is an amazing day.

The Car Concert

By Car-Addict at 02/23/08 23:04
In a few weeks from now, Philippines' giants in the car industry will join force to give people the thrill and excitement that they have not experience before.

PGA Cars, the distributor of Audi and Porsche in the country, alongside with Jabez Motors (Mitsubishi), Toyota, Bernal-Madrigal Motors (Honda) and Korean giant Hyundae combined their resources for a very spectacular welcoming for the summer. The event will be held in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig Metro Manila this coming March 15 starting at 6pm non-stop until 6am the next day.

The event will be co-sponsored by the country's premiere companies/investors like Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Delifrance, Canon Cams and a lot more.

This will be a whole night of partying and showcasing the country's most expensive, most stylish, newest, prettiest car. The car manufacturers are also launching their new models in the Philippines. There are also car competitions like the best car pimping, the best car gadgets and the best car fashion look.

Known celebrities will also participate in the event. The party will be open for everyone from 10pm onwards but from 6pm-10pm, only invited guest can come for the launching of the model cars and announcement of each car manufacturer.

My father was sent an invitation but cannot come because he is not in the country. The more I like to come, the more I think of my thesis haha. So I guess I'll just watch the whole event on television because I'm halfway across the country by now. And though it's possible for me to come, I decided that I will not.

It's time to see more of your favorite cars and stars so come and join the fun! You still have time to prepare your cars for the said contest categories, you never know, you might just win the prize.

Celebrity Cars

By Car-Addict at 02/22/08 21:47
We've seen them in televisions. we've seen them in movies. Cars that celebrities are driving definitely drives us crazy. We may say the finest cars are owned by Hollywood actors and actresses or some lucky sports man.

I just saw this on the paper last week, famous late night host Jay Leno has a new E85 C6RS Corvette. Leno’s alternative-fuel super car is powered by a custom, 8.2L (500-cubic-inch) all-aluminum small-block V-8 that pumps out approximately 600 horsepower and 585 lb.-ft. of torque.

Wow. The car I only saw in movies is actually owned by someone very famous, though I never thought he own something like that. He is also rumored the host the top shop Top Gear because his late night show will soon expire along with other option like Jerry Seinfeld who himself is a Porsche collector. Gawd, that's one bulk of luckiness. Soon he'll pronounce himself as the modern day car God. Lol.

The first celebrity whom I envied when it comes to owning an expensive car will have been Tupac Shakur. When he publicly showed his Hummer H1 I told myself I must have that haha. Gah! There are lots of cars that I like. Must work hard.

There are also cars that we adore in movies like the ones Will Smith used in his film I-Robot. That's a hefty, luxurious beautiful Audi car. Another Audi will be featured in the upcoming movie Iron Man. Its an Audi R8, a top of the line model of the company. Its stealthy features perfectly fit the movie. Its a must see I bet. In another movie by Will Smith, the star car is a Mustang GT500, a classic but definitely one of the most famous from the brand.

The Pope himself has a good taste in picking cars, I mean, his staffs. Whenever he showcased himself to the public, he is aboard an open top Mercedez-Benz G-Class that is specially made for him. It was constructed for two years including consultations to the Vatican during the process.

What can I say? WOW.

Big Wheel from Ford

By Car-Addict at 02/21/08 04:00
Again, my love for Ford trucks were relived. I was almost near the gate of my home when a beautiful Ford Truck pass by me. Even though its pretty fast, I still noticed it a ford, though I'm not sure what model is it.

Ford, ford, ford, ford. That is what's been roaming my mind right now. I wish to have one and I promise myself this year, or next year, I will have myself a Ford. May it be a luxury sedan, an SUV or a truck, as long its a ford and fits my budget, I'll buy it.

When I last check on the price of a Ford F-150, it's still 2.3M Pesos. Still high for a student like me. Maybe I'll just wait for the high to sinked in a little, down to 1M+ or so. Ford vehicles are really high valued and a bit expensive simply because they make good quality cars and trucks. The toughness of each Ford's creations can be seen throughout generations. Even the oldest Ford car is still alive. Since the start, the quality of Ford manufacturing is relatively high as compared to other brands.

Proven to last for years and decades, Ford cars and trucks have evolved extensively. The features and capabilities of each vehicle were improved to their maximum level. The styles were reformed to give customers stylish and smooth registering vehicles.

Ford more than a century, Ford has given us cars that we can say one of the best. Ford now encompasses many multinational brands like Jaguar, Mercury, Lincoln, Volvo and more. Ford is also the world's third largest automaker after GM and Toyota. Henry Ford's sweat building this company paid off. And no one can deny that. Indeed, Ford is one of the best car maker in the whole world.

The Green Turtle

By Car-Addict at 02/20/08 20:11
Do not be confused. This is not a biology post or an entry related to animals, well at least not with true animals. What I'm talking about here is not actually a turtle but a beetle. Yes, a beetle.

One of the very famous, and should I say, most in number cars in the Philippines is the Volkswagen Beetle. True, everywhere you turn, theres a Volks Beetle, or what we call here as Turtles, because they look more of a turtle to as than beetles haha. After the ruling of President Ferdinand Marcos, thus terminating martial law to stabilize the country, the citizens gave themselves a gift by buying these cars. They said buying cars will help them ease the pain and memories of the past regime. Volkswagen, brave enough to continue selling cars even at the peak of the revolution enjoyed the rush of people.

The most famous color for this is green. Now you got the idea for the title eh? It seems like every family has one beetle. If you haver a nice car, be sure you also have a beetle. That was the rule. Before.

The ruling of Volkswagen Beetle was long gone. People now despise the sight of them, they totally forgot about the beetle, except for some 'living' fanatic for this car.

It may have been the longest model craze in this country but the sprout of newer innovations, bigger brands, and more expensive ones ruined the career of the turtle. People now go for the stylish sedans, shiny sports cars or big utility vehicles.

To commemorate the Beetles and the 'help' to the people, Volkswagen will organized a Beetle gallery they named after the Filipino term for this car, "Bale Of Turtles Galleria - Rise of the Beetles". This will be held on SM Cebu Activity Center on the 28th of February. This will also showcase the newer versions of the beetle and other cars of Volkswagen.

Come and join us.
