In many western countries, drag racing is just a typical form of past time. There are even professional drag racing of which anyone can join. Though not all of them are legal, drag racing in these countries is really not a problem. But the case is different for Asian countries. Most Asian countries are still not accepting the idea of drag racing. In fact, many are still not in favor even for the legal races. It may sound like an old idea, but most Asians still believe racing, illegal or legal, is a serious threat to a person's life. Well, it's a fact.
Last week, Indonesian police force raided a meeting of illegal drag racers who are about to do a race in the highways near the Monash University in Jakarta. Half of the number of the racers were found to be minors. Indonesia is facing big numbers of illegal racing reports everyday, and it's very alarming that most of these people are minors.
In the Philippines, authorities are also facing a big problem regarding illegal drag racing specially in cities and provinces outside the National Capital Region. The polices in the provinces are not that strict when it comes to making disciplinary actions.
The Philippines do not have a law against illegal forms of racing, a thing that most supposedly-violators really enjoy. I don't know what's with the government not making laws against this fatal hobby. I am not against in any type of motoracing but I do not want it be done illegally, especially if minors are involved. I have seen countless accidents and deaths brought by this illegal activity.
My aunt died in 1999 because of illegal drag racing. Yes, she's a girl who like adventures. Unfortunately, her adventures brought caused her end. I was about to graduate from elementary then when she died and I know how hard it is for her family. I do not want to be in their position so I am really putting my best foot forward to counter these illegal activities.
Stop illegal racing! Life is not a race, it's a journey.
