We have been presented with a lot of energy saving devices, a lot of fuel economy vehicles and ways to conserve and spend less on the gold price of gases. But Peugeot has another way of showing the world their dedication to save gas energy.During the weekend's 2008 Le Mans Series race in the village of Silverstone, Northamptonshire in United Kingdom, Peugeot unveiled their first ever hybrid diesel-electric racing car concept.
The car concept is generally based on the 908 HDi FAP production race car. It is said that Peugeot wanted to race on the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race using the 908 HY hybrid concept.
This 908 HY hybrid car is equipped with a hybrid diesel-electric powertrain that will utilize a working kinetic energy recovery system to store or recover most of the produced energy under braking.
The concept car also features an 80 HP electric motor generator that will replace the usual conventional starter motor. The 908 HY hybrid will also feature a 600 lithium battery.
The Peugeot 908 Hybrid will operate on electric mode only engine for maneuvers done in low-speed, or it can either use its other diesel engine only, perhaps it can also use a combination of both.
On another new, Volkswagen is now the world's official 3rd largest automaker. Volkswagen, after years in the car industry, was finally able to be included in the world's top three car makers, overthrowing Ford in its long time held position.
"We are delighted that the Volkswagen Group has made it to the global automobile industry’s top three for the first time. This shows that we are on the right track with our ever-stronger international presence and, above all, our product program. We will systematically push ahead with our growth course even in the present difficult market environment.", as what Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft said in the press release given out by Volkwagen.
Volkswagen now joins the topliners of car makers with Toyota fronting the line and GM in the near second position.
