Automobiles a Milestone in History of Mankind

By Wilbur Corncob at 10/30/07 11:39

The advent of automotives is such a milestone in the history of mankind which does not have much equals. Just imagine how people would have experienced difficulties in traversing distances and going from one place to the other without the fast and furious modes of transport which are available to us in the current times.

The word automotive covers a broad range of machines ranging from small cars to big trucks which can be used to transport both people and materials. The range and span of these automotives is too broad and diverse to be listed in this short blog, but don't get disheartened for we will be discussing various facets of different automotives in this blog.

There could be various perspectives from which automotives can be discussed such as the latest zing machines in the market, new developments in the automotive arena, the place to buy second hands cars, different regions of the world and the automotive trend over there, and the list is literally endless only to be limited by your imagination.

We will take one of these topics for a start and will diversify in our scope and range of discussion as we progress over a period of time

Automotive Industry history

By Wilbur Corncob at 10/30/07 11:38
Whereas General Motors is the American multinational giant producing automobiles, Toyota Motor Corporation or Toyota for short is the Japanese multinational giant involved in the production of automotives since the year 1937.

This might remind you of another important period of the automotive history nearly five years prior to this when 4 companies amalgamated to form another popular name in the automotive segment namely Audi AG.

Apart from manufacturing excellent quality cars and having occupied the second position in the list of companies producing the most automobiles last year, the company also is involved in the manufacture of robots as well as fully computerized electric looms and sewing machines.

During the Second World War the focus of the company shifted on producing simple trucks for the army which used these vehicles for warfare purposes. Luckily for the company the war ended prior to a planned bombing by the allied forces in Japan on the Toyota manufacturing units in the country.

After the end of the war, the company again concentrated on passenger cars only in order to make a turnaround in its fortunes. Today the efforts have borne fruit and the company is racing ahead to occupy first position in the car manufacturing arena, tending to leave behind General Motors, the American giant.

A little history of Audi

By Wilbur Corncob at 10/11/07 09:08
The founder of Audi was a gentleman by the name of August Horch, but then you might wonder why Audi is not called Horch or August for that matter. Well the reasoning is pretty simple, Horch was the name of one of the four companies which amalgamated in the year 1932 to form which is today known as the Audi AG.

As for the name "August" all I can say is that may be the calendar sort of name did not match the brand that Audi was destined to become in the days to come. But that does not mean to say that Horch does not occupy a place in the name of company for Audi is the Latin translation of the word Horch, since the latter had to be dropped due to some court litigation.

Although the four companies merged in the year 1932, the history of Audi is nearly quarter of a century older than that and it began in the year 1909 when Horch started the company. Currently Audi is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group and produces all sorts of high quality models which are a symbol of technical excellence that German engineering is renowned for the world over.
