So there it was. The Frankfurt Motor Show has already started, and as promised, the different participating car companies never failed to surprise us with some of the most promisiong automobiles to be produced in the coming decade.
One of the most promising machines in the lineup (and I believe it has already been the focus in a previous post) is the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, BMW's latest concept car set to be out in the market in 2020. The technology needed to produce it now is too expensive given its youth, but with its surprising efficiency, its release is definitely worth the wait.
Not much has to be mentioned about the exteriors--because all of us already know how cool it looks like. So let's just go on with the interiors and the engines that power it. In a nutshell, it is powered by a three-cylinder engine and an electric motor. That doesn't sound much until you find out that the engines have a power of 356bhp and 560lb.ft. of torque. But it's not all power. It's also green. Imagine the power getting 75.1mpg of mileage and 99g/kg of CO2 production. That's good enough to pass some of the world's most stringent green-ness tests.
It achieves this kind of efficiency by utilizing hybrid technology, using the tandem of one 163bhp motor and two electric motors. Users may also opt to turn off the oil motor and go with all-electric power for up to 30 miles. Right now it is too expensive to emulate the same technology in contemporary models, however.
According to BMW, the car might be ready for production by 2020. That means more than 10 years of waiting for fans out there. Definitely worth the wait, I say--though it would be great to have the same exteriors in the upcoming models ready for production.
