How many times have you experienced getting a flat tire while on a long travel? How many times were you pissed by these events, and resulted in you being late to your appointment or to a very important engagement?
I was with some friends yesterday afternoon and is on the road for an estimated 4 hours of travel from the metro to the nearby province. We are to visit the wake of our friend's father. We are already traveling halfway and is routing the long expressway when we suddenly heard and felt unusual car sounds shaky feeling. We are running flat at 60mph.
Two of the girls who were with us were already screaming in fear. They are afraid we might end up crashing to the concrete islands built between lanes in the expressway. We are pretty glad that our driver was at least capable of handling surprising events, and death defying at that.
After a few minutes of running flat, we came to a stop on the road shoulder. We set out and see what really happened. The tire was horrible. It was really torn and really really flat. Its as if it was a deflated balloon.
The car was a 2003 Honda Civic. By the looks of it, there's nothing to blame why the tire ended up like that aside from it's age. The car hasn't been replaced with a newer tire since it was purchased 5 years ago. The tire was the original once and its really obvious that its already aging and decaying.
Fortunately, an expressway service car passed by and gave us a hand replacing it with a newer tire, of course we paid the new tire though we had to wait for an hour before they brought a tire that fits pretty well with it.
The result was arrived really late, our friend was already asleep, and the food that was reserved for us was already eaten up by some other guess.
Now I know that I really should check the tires or at least remind the owner to do it for us before setting off for a long travel. Or we might just end up being the ones you will be visiting in the cemetery next time.
