Courier Trucks - FedEx vs UPS

By Tony Stark at 09/06/08 18:20

I have always used UPS as my preferred courier/package delivery service. Every year, I received packages within the US and considerable packages from other countries such as Australia, United Kingdom, France and most recently, Germany. Most of these are subscriptions to glossy magazines and some are packages sent by relatives.

I have always admired UPS for their being on time and the courtesy of their staff. Their trucks, though classic and old looking, are still one of my most favorite vehicles around. I mean, since I was a kid we've been using UPS and I had the impression when I'm a still their trucks are from God that He uses to send his blessings. Lol.

But recently I changed my package service provider because there is no UPS office near in my house. The only near courier service is the more popular FedEx, of which I have not used in my entire life, until now. I had to send bulky items for my friend in Palau Island (part of Micronesia). It's so big that I requested them to fetch the items from my house instead of me bringing the items to their office. And the agreed.

FedEx trucks looks good. Actually, they look better than the UPS trucks, and they look kinda faster. FedEx is a bigger company than UPS and I saw in movies they have fleets of airplanes for a one day delivery service. So I expect they should bring the items to Palau in less than a day, before UPS usually delivers the items in 30 hours.

I had the items delivered in the morning and to my surprise, my friend called to thank me for the items by dinner. Sick, that was the fastest courier service!

UPS is reliable, but I think I'll be sticking with FedEx at the moment. UPS delivers the item in more than a day reasoning they got flat tires along the way or had engine troubles. Well, I think they should replace their old vans and trucks. And I mean replace ALL, not just a few. And I also learned that FedEx trucks are all hybrid making them the owner of the biggest fleet of hybrid trucks! Now that's cool and I love them more for that.

The UPS trucks are still the best looking delivery trucks out there and I used to use them quite a bit as they are pretty reliable. When I moved to the Detroit area and started up my own business I started using a local courier service which turned out to be a good decision. They have always been more reliable and affordable that some of the larger delivery services.

I'd think the way vans look should not be the main point, it is not that important... However, if you want to discuss, which company is better, I'd say they are both pretty much the same. They are both good. Even if, FedEx from the UK to USA is better, much better than anyone else. We, @ www.parcel-link.co.uk use both companies and apart from the odd delivery problem, we've never had any complains. As far as the trucks are concerned, the UPS trucks look and they'll always look the part ;-) you cannot beat that colour and I hope they’ll never change.

to tony stark ups is bigger than fedex and has a much larger fleet both in vans and tractor trailer versions.ups fleet is washed everyday in most of the ups facilities worldwide, ups prizes itself on cleanliness and the driver and vans are the face of ups.

both companies are good at what they do,but until fedex start playing on the same field and get away from the railway law fred smith is hiding under they may be able to undercut ups on price but not service.we have been around for 102 years and will be around a long time.
