United States Council for Automotive Research Due to Set Standards

During the SAE Conference being held in Detroit on April 20-23rd, new standards will be set for the high-voltage wiring and connectors that are incorporated into plug-in automobiles.  The standards are considered long overdue, and will help to save U.S. automakers and consumers money in the growing electric car market.

Electric cars may take at least 15 to 20 years before dominating the market, says Volkswagen CEO Winterkorn

Electric cars may already be here, but it may still take a long time before they finally replace oil-powered automobiles. In estimate, it may take at least 15 to 20 years, according to Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn. Volkswagen of USA head Stefan Jacoby has been quoted to say that it might even take longer.

The primary reason? No country on the planet is technologically ready to accept millions of electric cars plugged to a socket at the same time.

Power utility companies get ready for the electric car

It seems to me that the arrival of electric cars in the market is already inevitable. It poses the solution to the fluctuating oil prices and it may help making the planet greener.

However, if these cars go full penetration, the power grid may be overwhelmed with the number of cars charging all at the same time. This is exactly what some of the power utility companies are readying for.
