An Emotional Racing Accident

By Michael Shoemaker at 03/26/08 20:51

I was doing my regular youtube round up when I spotted a video that literally brought me to tears. Yea, I am an emotional ass. But who could have not felt sorry for this little soul. Watch it so you'll know.

YouTube Video

It was a race, GP Holland in 1973. A racer, Roger Williamson crashed on his lap 8 round. It was a very hard crashed, fires where everywhere, his vehicles was totally crashed and under fire, with him still stuck inside. A co-racer and a friend, David Furley stopped to helped his dying friend and aid in the crash. Normally the first people to come in the crash seen would have been the safety team or the aid team. But unfortunately, they were too lazy to move that Furley himself was the first on the scene.

He tried to roll over the car to get his friend out, but he can't because of the fire. Rescue team finally came. But not enough. All they were equipped was a single fire extinguisher. Only one, and it cannot compensate the fire. It was depleted, but the fire still rages. You can see how upset Furley was with the incident. He was trying his best to pull and help his friend out but the people around him, the people who are supposed to help him, did no do anything. They just stared at the dying Williamson.

Furley's hope for Williamson's survival faded. He died out of people's non-cooperativeness. If only the safety of the racers were secured, an accident that caused a man's life might not happen.

This is something that really struck me. Something that will never be forgotten as a reminder of how people's mistakes can caused their lives.
