The New Electrifying Chevy Volt

By Auto Bots at 04/18/08 11:06

The Chevrolet Volt is an electic concept car made by the General Motors and was presented in the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on January 7, 2007 in Detroit, Michigan. But an updated version was shown at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2007 in Shanghai, China.

This new electrifying concept car from Chevrolet has entered production and will be available in the worldwide market by 2010. The vehicle is designed to be run by pure electricity from on-board batteries that will reach up to 40 miles (64 km).

However, GM refused to call their car as a "hybrid car" and they would like to stick on it being called an electric car with range extenders due to its innovative design.

"The vehicle is propelled by electrical motors with a peak output of 120 kW (160 horsepower). Ordinarily, the vehicle would be charged while at home overnight (plug-in hybrid). The vehicle has two charging ports for convenience, one on each side.[12] A full charge reportedly takes 6.5 hours from a standard North American 120 V, 20 A household outlet." -Wikipedia.

Now you need not to worry about where would you charge it because an ordinary outlet will do. This is definitely one of the cars that you should watch for.
