Now I'm sure everyone has their own opinions on what the "Cash For Clunkers" program means for the Government. This program was supposed to help in many different ways. I feel as if it is only helping the middle/high class, and the Government. The point of the program is to get people to turn in their gas eating cars and spend thousands of dollars on new ones that are better for the environment. Of coarse there is a catch. You have to have good enough credit to finance the new car. Most people have these cars because they can't get the credit to finance. So therefor they can't use the Cash For Clunkers program.
Some people are turning their cars into the program and buying Hummers. How is that gonna help? Another thing that pisses me off is that when these used cars get turned in to the Cash For Clunkers program the Government "kills" them. They blow up the engines and send the parts to the manufacturers. Instead of doing that I think they should use them to help families who can't afford cars. Families that could really use them and appreciate them. That way EVERYONE is benefiting from this.
Now the biggest reason to why I think the Government made the Cash For Clunkers program is mainly to help the economy. Yes it is a good thing to help the economy, but they are trying to do it in a way that only helps the rich get richer. The people at the bottom of the totem pole, the low class, don't get anything out of the program. The Government is trying to get people to spend thousands of dollars on new cars that way there is more money moving around. Also so these car companies can quit trying to get money for Bailouts. I think this plan should have been though about a little more before going in to effect. Maybe everyone could have gotten some help.
It's a bit late for you to realize just now the clunkers program is aimed at the economy.
And one thing you failed to realize about the program, it is made to lessen the number of gas guzzlers on the road that eats up lots of fuel and harms the environment. If the government will follow your advice to just give the used cars from the program to those can't afford to buy a car, then the program will be useless.
The Hummers are a different issue though. They should be more strict on what a person will buy from the program's money. But as you say, to each his own.
