Owning a car comes with responsibility. It comes with utmost caring and dedication because a car is considered as an investment. One of the regular things to do if you own a car is changing its oil. It is done to keep it clean and maintain its performance. It is also a must for safety reasons. But it is something that needs a lot of money. And some people do it themselves to save from the high cost of it. If done properly, it will make a good outcome. But if not, it may create a disaster and you may even end up spending more money for repairs. So how do we really change our engine oil properly? Here are some tips for you to learn and also to save you from spending much. First and foremost, if you are going to change your car engine's oil, be sure it is not hot. Let it cool for a few hours before engaging in the process. Next thing to do is to secure a safe area where you will conduct your oil changing. It must be level and a solid ground so you can jack up your car safely. Put a mat or a cardboard beneath the floor area in case you spill the oil. And before you even start the next procedures, be sure to have all you need for the job to be done. We usually use the following: open end wrench, oil filter wrench, recycle container, funnel, new oil filter, filter and a clean rag. If you have all this, you're good to go.
After the first part of the process, which is preparation, we will be doing six more steps - draining the old oil, catching the old oil for recycling, remove the old oil filter, installing the new oil filter, refilling the engine oil and lastly, checking the oil level.
