Who knew that my identity could be stolen from a car registration and insurance card. My bank recently called me about some suspicious charges to my account. We quickly realized that someone had gotten my personal info. This is a moment that I wish no one will ever experience. You feel like you are lost and cannot and will not ever recover from such a thing. After the initial shock, we tried to figure out how this could have happened.
I am the kind of person who always shreds my mail and personal info is kept at home in a locking filing cabinet. After concluding that my birth certificate, credit card statements and social security card were all there, I was even more confused.
So we just figured someone had pieced together some shredded mail or something. But, as fate would have it, shortly after, I found out what really happened. I got pulled over for a burnt out tail light and to my surprise, my registration and insurance card were not in my glove compartment.
To top off this situation, I have a fine for not having a registration and insurance card, my bank account is funky and I am about at my wits end. So, for all of you out there that just have the info for your automobile in the glove box, I would think about investing in a small lock box that will fit under the seat or something. I hope this doesn't ever happen to anyone else.
