Whereas General Motors is the American multinational giant producing automobiles, Toyota Motor Corporation or Toyota for short is the Japanese multinational giant involved in the production of automotives since the year 1937. This might remind you of another important period of the automotive history nearly five years prior to this when 4 companies amalgamated to form another popular name in the automotive segment namely Audi AG.
Apart from manufacturing excellent quality cars and having occupied the second position in the list of companies producing the most automobiles last year, the company also is involved in the manufacture of robots as well as fully computerized electric looms and sewing machines.
During the Second World War the focus of the company shifted on producing simple trucks for the army which used these vehicles for warfare purposes. Luckily for the company the war ended prior to a planned bombing by the allied forces in Japan on the Toyota manufacturing units in the country.
After the end of the war, the company again concentrated on passenger cars only in order to make a turnaround in its fortunes. Today the efforts have borne fruit and the company is racing ahead to occupy first position in the car manufacturing arena, tending to leave behind General Motors, the American giant.
