The founder of Audi was a gentleman by the name of August Horch, but then you might wonder why Audi is not called Horch or August for that matter. Well the reasoning is pretty simple, Horch was the name of one of the four companies which amalgamated in the year 1932 to form which is today known as the Audi AG. As for the name "August" all I can say is that may be the calendar sort of name did not match the brand that Audi was destined to become in the days to come. But that does not mean to say that Horch does not occupy a place in the name of company for Audi is the Latin translation of the word Horch, since the latter had to be dropped due to some court litigation.
Although the four companies merged in the year 1932, the history of Audi is nearly quarter of a century older than that and it began in the year 1909 when Horch started the company. Currently Audi is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group and produces all sorts of high quality models which are a symbol of technical excellence that German engineering is renowned for the world over.
