One of the most important provincial highways in the Philippines is located within Cavite. This is probably the road I traveled the most in my entire life. I have lived in Cavite most of my life and Aguinaldo Highway is already a part of my daily life and also to thousands of Caviteņos.
Aguinaldo Highway is the gateway of Cavite to the National Capital Region. The long Roxas Blvd. of NCR ends on the Manila-Cavite expressway and the end of the expressway start the Aguinaldo highway. The highway is a 56 km stretch that starts in the town of Bacoor and ends in the city of Tagaytay.
The highway is notorious for the heavy traffic you will experience in its northern parts in Bacoor and Imus but the traffic will be lessened as you enter Dasmariņas.
One of the most notable feature that is implemented in the northern part of the long highway is the counterflow we call in the Philippines as "buhos" and "ipon". This counterflow is implemented almost every morning during the rush hour. Most of Caviteņos work in Manila and Makati so the highway is jampacked every morning and office-off hours at night.
Buhos is done by stopping the other lane of the highway at one point so the other can immediately travel outside Cavite during rush hours. This will be done in full 30 minutes. The part that is stopped is called 'pon'. Then after 30 minutes, the 'ipon' will now become the 'buhos' while they become the ipon and vice versa from 7am-8:30am. So if you live in Cavite, you probably know the scheduling of this couterflow.
Aguinaldo Highway is a fun road to travel when you start it in Dasmariņas to its end in Tagaytay because there are less public jeepneys and most that travel here are buses and mostly private vehicles. The scenic view along the way is also something that lacks in its northern part.
People living in parts of the highway where everyday heavy traffic is a normal scene may hate it but for us who has the best part of the highway totally loves it.
Actually, the ones who are busy are those traffic enforcers from CTMO (Cavite Tong and Mangongotong Office) and BTMO (Bacoor Tong and Mangongotongeros Office), they are busy collecting tongs from nasty and undisciplined bus and jeepney drivers especially along SM Bacoor and Puregold Imus.Yes it is true, that the best part of Aguinaldo Highway is right after Robinson's Dasmariņas all the way to Tagaytay.
I hope Governor Ayong Makupad, his son - mayor of Imus, and Bong Revilla's brother - mayor of Bacoor will soon walk out of their office for being inutile government officers who does not care about the plight of Caviteņos who needs to work miles away on some parts of Metro Manila because they cannot provide real jobs in Cavite, but we are faced with grim and stressing traffic.
Anyway, we are ready to boot them out of their office this coming 2010 elections together with their monkeys on CTMO and BTMO
