
Last November, we witnessed Ford's unveiling of the 2010 Ford Mustang at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. Now, Ford unveiled a more sophisticated version of the car, the Shelby GT500 edition. The unveiling comes as a surprise as it was expected to be unveiled for this month's Detroit Auto Show (North American International Auto Show) to be held this coming January 11-25
The Shelby GT500 edition is powered by a 540 horsepower 5.4-liter V8, making it 40 horses ahead of its predecessor. Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) is responsible for the good gains of the Shelby GT500 which mostly came from the special edition Shelby GT500KR, including the 510 pound-feet torque.
The 2010 Shelby GT500 will surely deliver better acceleration, with its new gearbox enhancements including a standard 3.55:1 rear axle ratio, decreased drag, and increased downforce. The new Shelby does al this while providing you with a 2 mpg of highway fuel efficiency.
When it comes to the handling system, the 2010 Shelby GT500 Mustang will also be better than its earlier made cousin.It has new lightweight wheels that will surely maximize speed and lessen noise. It also has improved and optimized springs and dampers. It is equipped with a Goodyear F1 Supercar tires, and also features a stiffer steering shaft. All this will make the handling of the Shelby GT500 Mustang a great experience.
Aside from the added features mentioned, you also get to use Ford's AdvanceTrac stability control, although you can disable it if you want to, depends on your choice. The 2010 Shelby GT500 Mustang edition will also feature improved safety gears with their side-impact bags, dual launch front air bags, the Ford SYNC (voice activated gadgets such as mobile phones), a direct dial 911 assistance, self updating Vehicle Health Report (VHR) and the cool Ambient Lighting System with MyColor. You also have the option to go for a Voice Activated navigation that goes with a Sirius Travel Link.
