In a few days from now, we'll be seeing Mitsubishi's newest plug-in hybrid concept, the PX-MiEV. The Japanese automaker invested effort and time in developing the concept vehicle which will have its official debut on the coming 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.
However, reports and rumors are spreading that even though the PX-MiEV will be debuting to the event, the technology used in the vehicle will not be turned into a production version for the said vehicle. Instead, Mitsubishi may just use the plug-in hybrid technology for a hybrid version of the Lancer Evolution, reports said.
The PX-MiEV plug-in hybrid concept technology is said to be designed aiming for fuel economy. Reports said the concept can reach up to 140mpg. The concept will also be taking some few technologies already used in its Lancer Evolution model. One of which is Evo's S-AWC handling control system ensuring that performance over fuel economy is not compromised.
The concept vehicle will be having a grand total of 81 horsepower electric motors at each axel – allowing an all-wheel drive function. It also comes with a 1.6L gas engine providing additional power to the front wheels. Another good thing about it is that the gas engine also acts as an electric generator for the lithium-ion battery pack of the vehicle.
But do not expect an Evo coming near you in the coming months as its launching was moved to a later date, 2013, due to the global financial crisis which Mitsubishi is obviously affected. The next generation plug0in hybrid Evo is expected to come out to the public after a few months of its introduction.
