During the recent Paris Auto Show, we saw what we thought is Honda's 2009 variant of their Toyota Prius fighter, the Insight. But in actuality, what we saw in Paris was the pre-production model and it only means it's not the actual one that will be sold in public. But a few months ahead of the Detroit Auto Show, Honda has released official information and photo details of the 2009 Honda Insight production variant. As we all know, the production and the pre-production with cars are very much different from each other.
This hybrid car form Honda is on the process of 'recycling' form the company as many parts and features of it are based on other Honda products such as the Honda Civic hybrid. This is evident for the Insight's use of the Civic-Hybrid's current 1.3-liter Integrated Motor Assist system.
Honda is also planning to target buyers away form liking Toyota's Prius by bringing down its price to $18,500 which is obviously way cheaper than the Prius and actually cutting its price to thousands of dollars.
What many are expecting for the Insight is the rumor that the fuel economy of the 2009 Insight would be "insane". We don't exactly know how Honda defines the word insane when it comes to fuel economy but insiders said that it will reach to at least 71 mpg. We are expecting actual figure is lower but there's no doubt that it is still impressive.
Honda plans to create at least 200,000 of the 2009 Insight annually. And they want to sell half of this figure to the American market.
