The 2008 Beijing Auto Show

By Sam Heisin at 04/23/08 01:10

China, Motor Show: 2008 Beijing Motor Show

The 2008 Beijing Auto Motor Show has just ended. And it was spectacular. The event commonly known as the Auto China 2008 took place last April 20-28 in New China International Exhibition Center (NCIEC)in Beijing.

Global automakers has put their eyes on the Chinese market due to the 20 percent increase of car buyers in the booming country. They believed that the car trend in China is still young and will grow even more in the coming years. The global car market saw China's big potential to be a world class competitor especially now that there are no less than 25 car companies have built their factories in the country. These includes Audi, Toyota, Ford, BMW and others. Plus there are about 24 local Chinese car brands including Chery, Geely etc. But China still has to import super high end cars like Ferrari, Veyron and the likes.

This year's show featured a total of 890 new cars, SUVs, inclusing hydrid concept cars like the ones from Toyota. The vehicles are spread over 180,000 square meters of display area to accommodate this years participants. This is said to be the biggest car show in the history of China so far.

The show featured world premieres of car models like the Audi Q5 of which they expect to be a great seller alongside its brother model, the Q7. Nissan also showcased their version of the Teana that is ready for production, an updated version of the concept car they showed last year in Tokyo's auto show. Teana is Nissan's flagship car in China and is shared with the same architecture for the new Maxima. Volklswagen also revealed their two new Chinese built sedans, namely the Bora and the Lavida.

Truly, this years Auto Show China is a successful one that some cars were sold during the show and there are some that were sold even before the show started like the Continental GT, Continental Flying Spur and Arnage RL - all from Bentley.
