On May 15, 2009, a possible world record may be reached when a 1965 Daytona Cobra Coupe will be put up for an auction. So what's so great about "this" coupe that will make it a possible world record holder? Well, its price range is $10 million to $15 million, and with that price the world record set by previous car auction sales will be broken.
If the Daytona Cobra Coupe will be sold for more than $5.5 million, it will break the record for the highest auction sale which is currently held by a sister car, a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake. If the car goes higher than $11 million, it will break the record for any car with the highest paid price, a title currently owned by a 1961 Ferrari California Spyder.
The 1965 Daytona Cobra Coupe that will be up for the auction, which was based from the Shelby Cobra series of sportscars, is 1 of the only 6 built of its kind. To add more to its exclusivity and collector's value, the 1965 coupe is also the first American-made car to ever beat Ferrari in a world racing championship in Europe.
The 1965 Daytona-Shelby Cobra Coupe will be auctioned in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 15th by Mecum High Performance Auctions for their Spring Classic Auction.
